I want to start off by thanking all those who have been able set aside some time to submit articles that have appeared in our maiden issue of the
ISAE newsletter. My term of office started on a high note with Africa for the first time hosting the International Statistical Institute (ISI) conference (57th Session) in Durban, South Africa, from 16th to 22nd August 2009.
It was a memorable experience and I thank Statistics South Africa for a job well. I also thank African Development Bank, InWent and again Statistics South Africa for having sponsored staff as well as students to attend this conference.
I thank both staff and students who attended and/or presented papers at this conference. Indeed the presence of ISAE and Uganda at large Was felt and has been acknowledged. Please keep it up! The 58th Session is going to be in Dublin
in 2011 and it is not too early to start planning for it.
We should be on the lookout for international seminars and conferences and strive to write papers for publication in professional journals. Staff and students are also encouraged to become members of professional associations starting at home with the Uganda Statistical Society.
On the side of management, we will try our best to provide academic freedom, a conducive atmosphere for learning, teaching and research by applying principles of openness, participation, teamwork and innovation. We will improve on our networking so as to proactively manage the ISAE image and manage better our relationship with key stakeholders.
